French request for emergency assistance 'quite rare'
[i][i]France has been battling to get its fleet of nuclear power plants back to full strength since discovering an issue with corrosion at one of its reactors this winter.
The plants were built in the 1970s and 1980s, so maintenance issues are to be expected, but the return to service has taken longer than expected.
Phil Hewitt, a director at EnAppSys, said: "With maintenance of nuclear power plants, you cannot get it wrong."
He added that France's request for emergency assistance today, where the country's network asked to halve its scheduled exports through one of its interconnectors to the UK, is "quite rare".
