More than 14 million people, roughly half of them Jews and the other half Palestinians, live between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea under a single rule. The common perception in public, political, legal and media discourse is that two separate regimes operate side by side in this area, separated by the Green Line. One regime, inside the borders of the sovereign State of Israel, is a permanent democracy with a population of about nine million, all Israeli citizens. The other regime, in the territories Israel took over in 1967, whose final status is supposed to be determined in future negotiations, is a temporary military occupation imposed on some five million Palestinian subjects.

Video: Germany must stop making Palestinians pay for its Nazi crimes
On Tuesday I appeared on Deutsche Welle to talk about Israel’s ongoing aggression, and Palestinian resistance, in occupied Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip.
Since Deutsche Welle is a German state broadcaster, I considered it particularly important to address German complicity in Israel’s oppression of Palestinians.
“I think it is time for the people of Germany and German elites to stop making Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip pay for the crimes of the German people against European Jews,” I told the TV channel.
“Palestinians are sick of paying the price for guilty German consciences.”

Shin Bet’s Campaign Against Palestine
An important tool used by Israel to perpetuate this system is its intelligence apparatus. Both the Shin Bet and Mossad target all attempts by Palestinians inside or outside the Green Line to organize for their national, political rights as hostile to the interests of the state. As far back as 2007, in response to plans announced by Israeli Palestinian NGOs calling for the transformation of Israel into a secular democratic state with equal rights for all citizens, then-Shin Bet chief Yuval Diskin said:
“The Shin Bet security service will thwart the activity of any group or individual seeking to harm the Jewish…character of the State of Israel, even if such activity is sanctioned by the law,”[/i]
Diskin…[also] described Israel’s Arab population as a “strategic threat.”
Shin Bet said that there was nothing wrong with the formulation of the [plans] “unless they reflect or encourage subversive activity,” and that the Shin Bet’s activity includes foiling such activity on the part of various groups “even if their activity utilizes democratic tools.”

The only thing that matters and the only leverage the US has is its shamefully gross $38-billion 10-year aid package, a sweet-heart deal offered by Obama to buy off Netanyahu’s opposition to the JCPOA deal (it didn’t work). The Biden administration must immediately suspend all forms of US aid to Israel until Israel withdraws all of its Border Police thugs from Haram al-Sharif and ceases all evictions of Palestinian residents in East Jerusalem.

Butchers of Gaza viewed as partners by EU
For all their attempts to sound balanced, European Union diplomats are not neutral observers in Palestine. Most of what they say is aimed at legitimizing a lie.
Typically, the diplomats painted a false picture when Israel’s police stormed al-Aqsa mosque early on Monday. Rather than condemning Israel’s brutality, the EU referred to “ongoing clashes.”
Some 400 Palestinians were injured as they were attacked with stun grenades and rubber-coated steel bullets. And the EU implied that they brought it on themselves.
