"We have nothing against the media, but RTS is not media. It's full of government employees who are paid to produce propaganda and lies. To call it media is totally misleading. Its function is not to produce news and information, its function is to incite hatred and to distort reality - not to reflect reality, but to distort it. And therefore we see that as a military target. It is the same thing as a military propaganda machine integrated into the armed forces. We would never target legitimate free media - let me make that point clear."

NATO-Terroranschlag gegen RTS:

"The most notorious action was the bombing of the Serb government network RTS. Television and radio transmitters of both RTS and independent Serbian broadcasters continue to be hit by bombs and missiles. Last week Eutelstat, the European satellite consortium, voted to cut off satellite feeds from RTS, effectively blocking transmissions from Yugoslavia to other Balkan and European countries."

"The 1,176-page manual, published on June 24, is the first comprehensive revision made to the Defense Department’s law of war policy since 1956. One change in terminology directly targets journalists, saying “in general, journalists are civilians,” but under some circumstances, journalists may be regarded as “unprivileged belligerents.” [p. 173] That places reporters in the same ranks as Al Qaeda, since the term “unprivileged belligerents” replaces the Bush-era phrase “unlawful combatants.”"
