Roma - The Undesirables

Sadly, the term holocaust has been used to highlight the suffering of the Jewish people above all others. Thus, despite the fact that exterminations have occurred before and since on a much larger scale, these other atrocities, such as the genocides in Armenia, Cambodia, and Rwanda, are somehow belittled in contrast to what happened in Europe during the Second World War. Furthermore, it mustn't be forgotten that the Roma also suffered persecution and were exterminated under the Nazis in much the same way as the Jews were. Yet when we speak of the holocaust they are not mentioned; in Hungary a separate day commemorating "the Roma Holocaust" exists, but this is lower key and somehow not considered as important as that of the Jewish holocaust.
