Nomad Territories is a network of performance presenters, archives and artists facilities around the world. These spaces have been identified as Consulates, and to date, they have issued a total of 1,000 passports. Although they are not yet connected by a website (and it will probably not come on-line until late summer / early Autumn of 1997) the network is virtually glued by an e-mail mailing list. The purpose of the Nomad territories has been to create a trans-national central archive, a resource that links various research bodies. The future website will act like a research station, and will be accessible to the public a resource on topics of networks, access and identification.

Nomad Territories Embassadors

Currently hosted by Hull Time Based Arts, in Hull, UK, the Nomad territories works in association with Artlink Exchange and the Ferens Art Gallery. In Autumn 1997, a public symposium, exhibition program, and performance art --interdisciplinary event will be held in Hull, called Rootless 97. It will hold a public forum on the theme of "trans-nationality". Artists who have been pioneering networkers, and invited representatives of global states will attend. The Nomad territories project has initiated the European Performance Artist Residency Exchange [EPARE] program, that unites European and East European spaces. With this project, the goal is to develop relationships between artists, and to create works that involve different artists performances occurring simultaneously (sometimes in the same space). A Nomad Territories identity card will be issued to members of the public, at performances, in the near future.

Dear Nomad,

My name is Roddy Hunter, and I am the Co-General Consul of The Nomad Territories for England. This is a passport-based artists project with 1,000 citizens. I am currently planning a festival/symposium/event around the actualities of transnationality and networks. The event, Rootless '97 will be an interdisciplinary project combining social research with interactive multimedia to produce a public symposium consisting of mail, fax, Internet, audio and performance art; video conferencing; installation and exhibition program. The purpose of this event is to publicly profile issues of trans-nationality & networks, citizenship & access.

Best Wishes,
Roddy Hunter
