A column for Telepolis
Pop~TARTS, a regular feature of the online journal TELEPOLIS, is a live,
active performance work, conceived of to connect interesting wired women
and networked people, from places where ideas are evolving.
The pop~TART approach to people and ideas will follow a Palaver, or free-style form conversation, connected to a group mindware ideal. We will practice unrestricted association, spontaniety and serious musings among our colleagues. We will integrate texts, interviews, graphic images, links, video and audio tags, and e-mail conversations between ourselves and our featured media personalities. In this way, by playing on parallelism and coincidence, persons and sites will be layered in a mix of ideas and projects.
Our real life references for the premiere of pop~TARTS are two international events: The Next Five Minutes conference in Amsterdam - with the theme Tactical Media and The Butterfly Effect exhibition and symposium in Budapest - with the theme The coordinates of the moment before discovery.
Using these events as launching points, pop~TARTS established a matrix of specific and continuous themes which frame the various conversations and reports. E-mail responses from associate~TARTS will be integrated into the pop~TARTS column regularly. A direction we hope to achieve is a live online forum, direct from remote sites to the journal.
