Budapest, 6.International Villem Flusser Symposium

Intersubjectivity: media metaphors, play & provocation on Flusser's oeuvre and on media metaphors is the topic of discussion at the two-day symposium, held at the Mucsarnok. The annual symposium, each time held in a different location, will be accompanied by an exhibition of works by artists reflecting on Flusser. Although he is dead, he has inspired tremendous contemporary theory and reflection. What we recommended --for sure-- are the lectures of Marie-Luise Angerer "The Body as Interface"; Marina Grzinic "The Net Called Human Relations"; Hans Ulrich Reck "Immersive Environment" as well as the performances by Gusztav Hamos, Zoltan Szegedy-Maszak, Janos Sugar and Miklos Peternak.

Liverpool and Manchester, UK, Video Positive Festival of Electronic Art and LEAF97* www.fact.co.uk/VP97.htm

Video Positive97: Escaping Gravity, is the UK's major international festival of art and creative technology.

Liverpool East European Electronic Arts Forum takes place Sunday, April 13 & Monday, April 14, 1997, organised by: Foundation for Art & Creative Technology (FACT), Liverpool, UK (in collaboration with V2_organization, Rotterdam, NL).

The working theme for LEAF97: 'Virtually Transformed Europe - Recent East European Revolutions in Society, Culture, Technology, Art'. LEAF97 will take as a starting point the ISEA98 broad topic of Revolution and introduce an ISEA context well in advance for ongoing discussions and debates that could be further explored off- and on-line. Moreover LEAF97 would eventually aspire to bring the East European Electronic Arts awareness to ISEA98 agenda.

LEAF97 is a continuation of the V2_East Meeting initiative which aims to foster the understanding of the process of cultural transformation specific to Eastern Europe and the role of the media art and artists. Please refer to the V2 website for additional information on the V2_east syndicate, as well as a good reference to media art festivals. V2

Osnabrueck, EMAF - European Media Art Festival

Last year, Telepolis had very good experiences with an experiment of live web-editing at the Telepolis Newsroom. This year, some experiments can be expected as well. Alfred Rotert has invested a lot of energy into an interesting program on Hong Kong, a focus that should prove important in relation to the actual political change to be expected two months later. Also expected are net opinions, CD-Roms and multi media installations. This festival is somehow a must if you are interested in international Media art that spans several disciplines. You still can submit work until March 3, 1997!

May 24 - 27

Berlin, Transmedia 97 (formerly Berlin Videofest) We wish we could be two places at once, because we have always held the Videofest high on the list of international media events. This is the first year as Transmedia, and it signifies a change of time, and existance apart from the Berlin Film Festival. We wish Mediopolis tremendous success in 1997.
